The thick slab Brazilian rosewood fretboard is lighter in coloration on the bass side and has a deeper, richer brown on the treble side. It’s one of the most substantial necks we’ve ever encountered on a Duo Sonic, infinitely playable with rolled fretboard edges, measuring. The maple neck has broad, dimensional flame figuring extending the length of the profile, and the U-shaped carve is more slender at the nut, quickly gaining appreciable additional shoulder and heft in the higher registers. Featherweight at just 6lbs 9oz, this Duo Sonic has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar with 12-54 roundwound strings, low action, and accurate intonation. Both pickups have healthy output, with a bouncy, sparkling sound and chewy twang, delivering a smooth midrange character and focused bass register cut. These pickups are essentially wound identically to a '60 Strat pickup, with the only difference being the flat pole piece design.
The guitar offers tons of natural acoustic volume and authoritative bark, qualities which translate well via the original pair of black bobbin alnico magnet single coil pickups.
